January 30th, 2013 12:50 AM

Texroy, Texas is a relatively young town, born out of the oil boom. Unfortunately, when the boom was over it simmered down as a quiet community, that served as a subsection of Borger, Texas. It serves as a significant shipping point for Texas's agricultural market, and is the world's largest petrochemical development center.

The Texroy and Borger communities, while quiet, are not without unique entertainment. The Morley, a historical movie theater, and the Wildcatters bowling alley welcome a regular friday-night crowd, and fans regularly turn out to cheer on the Franks Phillips Jr College Basketball, and Baseball teams.

History buffs can uncover local lore and intersting facts about oil culture at the local Hutchinson County Historical Museum. A detailed history of the oil boom that drove local growth and development can be found there. The city of Borger has absorbed several smaller mining communities, including Texroy and Isom, and is known for having ghost town areas, where old depots, sections of railway, and other historical artifacts still exist.

A variety of notable American's were born and raised near Texroy and Borger, including NFL star Donny Anderson, actress Darlene cates, and Emy Coligado, the songwriter responsible for Pretty Woman, renowned drummer Kenney Dale Johnson, and more.

In 2011, Borger, which contains the Texroy community, had an estimated population of 13, 240. Of that population, roughly 80 percent were white, with prominent hispanic community. Roughly 75 percent of the population were considered long term residents who had owned and resided in their homes for more than one year. The community has a relatively low unemployment rate, a median income of 40,000 dollars per year, and a respectably low cost of living, which makes the community attractive to those looking for a home in the Texas Panhandle, or greater Amarillo area. A real estate appraiser can use this information, along with the job futures outlook, to determine how in demand homes are in the greater Borger area. Because homes sales, like all other retail, are a supply and demand market, this will influence the value homes placed on the market.

The average house costs $75,000 with larger estates on the edge of town reaching a $200,000 purchase price. Homes are available for an average rent of $550 dollars per month. Appraisers use the prices of homes that are on the market, or which have recently been purchased from the market in Borgen, and other outlying areas near Amarillo, TX to determine the value of the home being appraised. This makes sure that every home is listed at a competative value.

Students primarily attend Borger Independent school district. The school district includes six campuses, and sponsors nearly 3,000 students. There is also a Catholic school, the St, John Evangelist Catholic Learning Center, a community college, and Frank Phillips Jr. College.
