Lefors, which is in our appraisal coverage area, is a small Texas community that makes up a part of Gray County, sits on the North Fork of the Red River, just twelve miles southeast of Pampa. It was named after Perry LeFors who was traveling through the Panhandle in 1878 and settled in the area, becoming the foreman for the Diamond F Ranch. The first town homestead was built in 1882 by Travis Leach, a local rancher who quickly became known, as his log cabin served as the stagecoach stop on the mail route to Tascosa.
Despite, it’s tragedies the Lefors community has held strong, and today this area offers a lot of potential to people wanting to get away from big city life and take up the pleasures of country living. Just 12 miles from Pampa, Texas and 60 miles from Amarillo, Texas, Lefors is very accessible to modern city life, shopping areas and other urban attractions, such as the Pampa summer festivals, the Globe News Center for Performing Arts, the American Quarter Horse Heritage Center and the Amarillo Botanical garden.
The median household income is approximately $39,244. While this may not be the best, there are still distinct advantages to the area. For instance, the small community size, makes it beneficial for school aged children because the schools are also small. Lefors has one elementary, one middle school and one high school, with a total of 185 students. Although, not a top school district, the school’s size does benefit the learning capability of each student.
Recent real estate appraisals for home prices in this area show it an ideal investment opportunity for people looking for low price investments. When available real estate averages in Lefors stand at about $150,000, but there are also low price properties or foreclosures available starting in the $50,000 range.
